Growth of VMware Costa Rica

Located in the heart of three provinces (Alajuela, Heredia and San José), VMware opened its doors in Costa Rica in 2012. Costa Rica is an ideal location for VMware due to its proximity to the General Cañas Highway and Juan Santamaria International Airport, exceptionally talented and bilingual workforce, and universities offering technology-focused careers that are empowering young professionals to do what they’ve always dreamed of at companies like VMware.

Costa Rica is a vibrant country that has many components that make it unique. With a small area of just 51,100 square kilometers, people have access to white sandy beaches, lush rainforests, volcanoes and more. Costa Ricans take pride in having a green country that works to preserve its wildlife and national parks so that future generations can have a beautiful country to live in.

But what makes Costa Rica truly unique is its people. Costa Ricans are friendly, warm and hard working. They’re always looking to enjoy life and make sure visitors feel at home so that they can experience first-hand Costa Rica’s motto, Pura Vida (pure life). Costa Ricans infuse life in all that they do: work, family and friends.

Areas of Opportunity

Today, VMware Costa Rica has more than 480 employees who continue to share their passion and talents every day. Here, we provide services in areas such as Marketing, IT, Finance, HR, Sales, Engineering, Technical Support, and Legal.

Global Services in Costa Rica is one team that continues to grow, especially in our Technical Support and Customer Support groups. Costa Rica is now one of our major global centers where frontline customer calls are handled, and our passionate team of customer support representatives provides support in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

In Technical Support we have recently hired a new team that is dedicated to English-language support for our customers in North America, adding to the size of the department that was previously focused on just our Latin American market. With strong results from both teams, the future of Global Services is bright in Costa Rica, and part of our global growth strategy.

Our Culture in Action

VMware’s shared values (Execution, Passion, Integrity, Customers, and Community) are embedded into our site’s vision, mission, and culture. We reflect these values in every interaction with our peers, visitors, managers and the community.

In December of 2015, we celebrated a very special milestone – our site’s inauguration. The President of Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo Solis, along with other government representatives, VMware partners, vendors, and clients joined our community onsite for a special ribbon cutting ceremony. Our amazing new five-story facility has an open, modern design to promote innovation, collaboration and the development of productive working relationships. A dream come true for us, our new home is truly a motivation to continue shaping the future of IT.

In February 2016, our community attended the 11^th annual CINDE Job Fair – the largest bilingual job for in Costa Rica where more than 20 companies and academic institutes joined together to empower Costa Ricans to achieve what they’ve always dreamed of professionally. VMware had an amazing stand filled with enthusiastic employees eager to share more about who we are and the latest opportunities at VMware Costa Rica.
